A magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani province in the southern Philippines early Monday morning, killing at least 35 people and injuring more than 200 others. The quake, centered about 20 kilometers offshore, caused buildings to collapse across the region and was felt strongly throughout Mindanao and as far away as Manado in Indonesia.

The earthquake triggered tsunami waves that reached coastal areas in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan. Authorities warned residents to avoid damaged buildings due to the risk of aftershocks as emergency response teams mobilized to assess damage and reach affected communities in the hardest-hit areas.
