A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines on Monday, killing at least 32 people and injuring more than 200 others. The quake triggered a 3-foot tsunami that swept into nearby coastal areas and caused widespread building collapses across the region.

The disaster displaced tens of thousands of residents from their homes. Authorities warned people to stay out of damaged structures due to the risk of aftershocks as rescue and recovery efforts continued in the affected areas.
