Four women have accused actor and musician Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct that allegedly occurred when they were teenagers, according to a BBC documentary set to air Wednesday. The film, titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret," features allegations from a total of 10 women, with nine coming forward publicly for the first time.
The accusations span multiple incidents over several years. In one account detailed in reporting by Air Mail, a woman described an encounter from 2006 when she was 16 years old. She said Leto approached her outside a cafe in Los Angeles and obtained her phone number. According to her account, Leto later called her home late at night on multiple occasions, with conversations becoming increasingly sexual in nature.
Another accuser, model Laura La Rue, said that when she was 16 in 2008, Leto asked for her number at a private event in Beverly Hills. She described email correspondence that followed, leading to visits to his home beginning in 2009. La Rue recounted that Leto engaged in behavior she found uncomfortable, including what she described as flirting and teasing. She also alleged that during a separate visit when she was 17, Leto exposed himself to her.
A third woman told Air Mail that she began a texting relationship with Leto while underage. She claimed that during visits to his home, he asked her inappropriate sexual questions. When she was 18, she alleged that Leto exposed himself and forced her to touch him while making a sexual demand.
DJ and music producer Allie Teilz shared allegations on Instagram, reposting a 2012 Facebook status referencing an incident when she was 17 backstage. In her Instagram stories, she described being "assaulted and traumatized" and called his behavior "predatory, terrifying and unacceptable."
Leto's representative issued a statement denying the allegations. Regarding La Rue's account specifically, the representative claimed their communications "contain nothing sexual or inappropriate" and noted that La Rue later applied to work as Leto's personal assistant. La Rue denied ever applying for such a position, according to Air Mail.
The representative also "expressly denied" other women's accusations reported by Air Mail, describing them as "demonstrably false." Leto himself has not publicly commented on any of the allegations.
Leto, 53, is known for his acting roles in major films and as frontman of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars. The BBC documentary presents detailed accounts from the women making the accusations against him.
