Welsh pop star Bonnie Tyler has regained consciousness following a medically induced coma but continues to receive intensive care treatment at a hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal. The 75-year-old singer underwent emergency intestinal surgery in May and has now begun her recovery process.

A statement released on her official website confirmed that while Tyler's condition is improving, her recovery remains slow. Her medical team has expressed confidence in her eventual full recovery, though the process will require ongoing time and care. Tyler is described as remaining "very unwell" as she continues treatment in the intensive care unit.

The health update came after Tyler's family addressed what they called "lurid and untrue rumours" about her condition. The statement emphasized that although her doctors remain optimistic, the singer faces a lengthy recovery ahead. Her team announced that all remaining performances scheduled for the summer have been cancelled or postponed, with dates through the end of August affected. However, the statement expressed hope that some autumn shows may proceed as planned.

The cancellations affect numerous scheduled appearances, including a performance at Sunshine festival in Worcester in August alongside various European dates. A December concert at Cardiff's Utilita Arena on the 17th remains under consideration pending her progress.

Tyler's team expressed gratitude for the worldwide support the singer has received during this difficult period. The statement noted that Tyler is aware of and grateful for the good wishes from fans and well-wishers globally. Her family is with her in Portugal as she continues her medical treatment.

The 75-year-old artist, born Gaynor Hopkins in Neath, south Wales, rose to international prominence in the 1980s with her distinctive husky voice and powerful rock ballads. Her signature hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" achieved massive commercial success, spending two weeks at number one in the United Kingdom and four weeks atop the US charts in 1983. Additional hit songs include "Holding Out for a Hero," "It's a Heartache," and "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)."

Tyler's career has spanned several decades, beginning with her first single release in 1976 after being discovered by a talent scout in Swansea. More recently, she represented the United Kingdom at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, finishing in 19th place with the song "Believe in Me." In recognition of her significant contributions to music throughout her career, Tyler was appointed an MBE in 2023.

Her team has asked for privacy during this recovery period while committing to provide further updates as her condition progresses.
