More than half of House Democrats had paid less than 50 percent of their expected dues to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as of the beginning of April, according to a member dues report. The average payment rate stood at 47 percent. Nearly 30 members who are not in battleground districts had not paid any dues at all.
The collection struggles come as some House Democrats have threatened to withhold dues unless the DCCC stops intervening in primaries. While not the committee's only source of income, member dues represent a significant funding stream for the Democratic campaign organization.
